I talked to my family about creating our own emergency kit. We talked about the things we could include like an emergency blanket, a first aid kit, food, water, etc. In a case where an emergency happens and I'm in school, I could have my brother or his girlfriend pick me up. In my locker I keep an extra water bottle and replace it whenever it is necessary. I do not think keeping food in my locker is a good idea because ants or any other insects may eat the food. At home we decided to keep our emergency kit near the door. That way, we can just take it and go. By our door we also keep an emergency ladder since we live in an apartment complex. Our personal belongings did not fit in our emergency kit so we decided to make an emergency bag for each of us. My mom also carries an extra blanket and water in her car. She recently took out the water because it has been very hot. In our emergency kit we included things such as a first aid kit, water, extra clothes, some food, alcohol for wounds, and other things that we found around our house that we thought were necessary. Currently we do not have everything we need for an emergency, but we will continue to add things as time goes on. Other than an emergency kit, my family and i discussed what would we do in case of an actual emergency. We would try to research what is the nearest hospital that offers beds and a place to stay or if there is any place in the community that offers these things. If the freeways were to collapse we would find another way to get to our destination. Currently I am researching how to heal wounds that aren't so severe and how to give CPR. I am also researching ways to use certain common household items in case of an emergency. My family and I also discussed what personal belongings we would take with us. We decided to take letters and pictures since they hold a lot of memories that are dear to us. We also wrote down all of our family members' numbers on a paper and made extra copies in case it gets lost. That way, we will be able to communicate with each other. We are still unsure of what we would do if electricity does not work due to some kind of solar flare. In case this happens we would all meet up at my brothers house and stick to our plan. Here is a video of what my family and I carry in our emergency kit.
